Governing Board
The Governing Board is composed of parents, teachers, school
staff, community representatives and students (for Cycle Two Secondary
only). It makes decisions regarding the school and is responsible for
discussing all matters related to student success, including the educational
project, as well as the features and expectations of the school community.
The Chair of the Governing Board must be a parent and has the deciding
vote.

Parent Participation Organization (PPO)
Parents can choose to form a Parent Participation Organization--a
place where they can get together at school. The decision of whether
or not to have a PPO is made at the Annual General Assembly.
The purpose of the PPO is to encourage the participation of parents in the academic success of students and to foster the collaboration of parents in developing, implementing and evaluating the school’s educational project. More specifically, PPO members must:
- keep abreast of parents’ views, comments and suggestions;
- keep parents thinking about what they want for students;
- keep track of parents’ concerns and relay this information to the people concerned;
- advise the parents’ representatives on the Governing Board regarding any matter of concern to parents;
- support the work of the parents on the Governing Board and the Parents’ Committee.

Parents’ Committees
The Parents’ Committee is composed of a representative
from each school who is elected by the meeting of parents and one representative
of the EHDAA who is designated by the members of that committee. The
main role of the Parents’ Committee is to represent the interests
of the parents of the school in the Committee’s dealings with the
school board and to foster the participation of parents in school board
activities. It members, who are in constant contact with their fellow
partners via the Governing Board, interact with parents and can therefore
share any information, experiences and opinions. The Committee is also
consulted by the school board on education-related issues. Two of the
Committee’s
members are chosen for the Council of Commissioners.

Students and Students with Social Maladjustments or Learning Disabilities

parents of the students concerned. Its primary responsibility is to advise
the school board on the educational services to these students, the allocation
of financial resources, and the implementation of a student’s individualized
education plan if so required.
